Erin MacInerney is a freshman journalism student at the University of Texas at Austin. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee, but raised in Houston, Texas. She hopes to focus on photojournalism due to her love of photography she developed in high school. She also intends to double major in psychology, because she is fascinated with the brain and how it controls day to day behaviors.
Erin attended Episcopal High School, and it was there that she found her love for photography. She took all of the required art photography courses in order to be selected in the Senior Portfolio Class. In this class, she worked on her final portfolio, which she used in numerous college applications. In addition to this, she also was on the photojournalism team her junior and senior year. This allowed her to gain experience taking pictures at a wide variety of events including sport games, music concerts, and dance recitals.
Her photography has been published in Episcopal High School's yearbook the Hexagon, in the newspaper The Knight Times, and in the artistic journal Light and Shadow. Her photography has also won multiple awards in the school's semester art show.
After Erin obtains her undergraduate degree she hopes to get a job with a magazine similar to National Geographic and travel the world taking pictures. She is also interested in working as an advise columnist for a teen magazine, due to her love for psychology and her emotional intelligence.
Erin is also very involved in social networking. She has her own accounts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. She keeps up the local news this way as well with her friend's lives.
In the summer, Erin works for the Briar Club's swim team as a lifeguard and swim coach. She works with the 5-6 year-old age division the most, teaching them the proper techniques for breaststroke. She is able to teach swimming so well because she used to be involved in USA swimming, and has been swimming her whole life.
In her free time, Erin enjoys interior design, exercise, and hanging out with her friends. She loves to be up to date with the newest fashion trends and season colors. She also loves to thrift shop in Montrose, an area near where she grew up in Houston, Texas. Her favorite color is turquoise, and she loves to mix it with shades of grey. Erin is very active and you can frequently find her in a Pilates studio or at the gym. She loves to go and try new restaurants with her friends and explore different culture's foods.
